We started CosyRental for one simple reason — renting in Australia should feel like home, not a headache.
If you’ve ever rented in Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane, you know the feeling. The endless inspections, the bond stress, the “we’ll get back to you” emails. We’ve been there too.
So we built a little corner of the internet where renting feels a bit more human.
CosyRental is not a real estate agency. We’re your flatmate who actually knows the rules.

I’ve been renting in Australia for more than five years, moving between cities and properties enough times to have made most of the mistakes this site now warns you about — bond disputes, landlords who were vague about what counted as “fair wear and tear,” and more than one apartment furnished from scratch on a tight budget. Before Australia, I rented in Europe, which turned out to be a useful contrast: different rules, different norms around deposits and leases, and a clearer sense of which parts of the Australian rental experience are genuinely unusual rather than just “how renting is everywhere.” That back-and-forth is where CosyRental’s approach comes from — treating tenants as people who deserve a straight answer, not a sales pitch.
How we research and fact-check
Every guide on this site follows the same process:
- Legal and government-benefit content (bond rules, rent assistance, tenant rights, recent legislation) is written using only official sources — state government websites, Fair Trading bodies, and primary legislation. We link directly to these sources in every article so you can verify the information yourself rather than taking our word for it.
- Product recommendations are based on publicly available specifications, pricing, and — where we’ve used or tested an item ourselves — direct experience.
- Every article covering a government payment, legal right, or regulation is rechecked on a quarterly schedule, because these details change — rates get indexed, laws get amended.
What we don’t do
- We don’t accept payment to recommend a specific product.
- We don’t publish sponsored content disguised as independent advice.
- Where we use affiliate links (clearly disclosed on any page that has them), we pick the product first and check for an affiliate program second — never the other way around.
